4D flow-sensitive MR estimation of pulmonary vascular resistance

چکیده
Background Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by progressive increase in pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR), leading to right ventricular (RV) failure [1]. PVR is calculated using right heart catheterization (RHC), from the trans-pulmonary pressure gradient (ΔP) and pulmonary flow (QPA). Doppler echocardiography can estimate PVR from the ratio of peak tricuspid regurgitation velocity (TRV) to main pulmonary artery velocity time-integral (MPA flow) [2]. MRI is increasingly used to assess right ventricular (RV) function in PAH. Determining PVR from MRI could enable a more complete characterization of RV and PA interactions in PAH. The purpose of this study was to non-invasively estimate PVR from TRV/QPA using a 4D flow-sensitive MRI sequence in humans [3].

Non-invasive assessment of cardiac function and pulmonary vascular resistance in an canine model of acute thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension using 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to quantify right (RV) and left (LV) ventricular function, pulmonary artery flow (QP), tricuspid valve regurgitation velocity (TRV), and aorta flow (QS) from a single 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) (time-resolved three-directionally motion encoded CMR) sequence in a canine model of acute thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (PH). متن کامل4D cardiovascular magnetic resonance velocity mapping of alterations of right heart flow patterns and main pulmonary artery hemodynamics in tetralogy of Fallot
BACKGROUND To assess changes in right heart flow and pulmonary artery hemodynamics in patients with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) we used whole heart, four dimensional (4D) velocity mapping (VM) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). METHODS CMR studies were performed in 11 subjects with rTOF (5M/6F; 20.1 ± 12.4 years) and 10 normal volunteers (6M/4F; 34.2 ± 13.4 years) on clinical 1....
متن کاملImages in cardiovascular medicine. In vivo 3-dimensional flow connectivity mapping after extracardiac total cavopulmonary connection.
We present findings in an 18-year-old female patient with a double-inlet single ventricle 12 years after extracardic total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC)1 who also presented with a Waldhausen repair of aortic coarctation. To evaluate arterial and venous anatomy and to assess time-resolved 3-dimensional (3D) blood flow in the venous and pulmonary system, flow-sensitive 4-dimensional magnetic re...
متن کامل3D MR flow analysis in realistic rapid-prototyping model systems of the thoracic aorta: comparison with in vivo data and computational fluid dynamics in identical vessel geometries.
The knowledge of local vascular anatomy and function in the human body is of high interest for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. A comprehensive analysis of the hemodynamics in the thoracic aorta is presented based on the integration of flow-sensitive 4D MRI with state-of-the-art rapid prototyping technology and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Rapid prototyping was used...
متن کاملNovel method of quantifying pulmonary vascular resistance by use of simultaneous invasive pressure monitoring and phase-contrast magnetic resonance flow.
BACKGROUND Pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) quantification is important in the treatment of children with pulmonary hypertension. The Fick principle, used to quantify pulmonary artery flow, may be a flawed technique. We describe a novel method of PVR quantification by the use of magnetic resonance (MR) flow data and invasive pressure measurements. METHODS AND RESULTS In 24 patients with ei...
